Christians have an obligation to show up and vote. It’s not just a civic duty, but a moral responsibility to influence policies that align with biblical values. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has ridiculed conservative Christians, calling us “weird.” Well, if advocating for secure borders, protecting women, and defending life from conception to natural death makes me weird, I’ll proudly wear that label. I’d even buy the T-shirt and wear it all day long.
People who follow Christ are peculiar — and that’s not an insult. It’s a badge of honor from the Word of God. Scripture calls Christians a “peculiar people” in 1 Peter 2:9 and Titus 2:14. We are set apart for God’s purposes, and standing firm in our values is a testament to that.
I say loud and proud, I am a member of “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people.” Being peculiar in a world that has gone nuts is all right by me. Being peculiar in a world that increasingly rejects biblical principles is part of our calling.
God can use whomever He chooses.
The Bible is filled with examples of God using unlikely people to fulfill His plans. In modern times, I argue that He has done the same by using a brash billionaire to implement some of the most pro-religious freedom policies we’ve seen in generations.
Donald J. Trump may not fit the mold of a typical Christian leader, but the truth is that followers of Christ have received more respect and outcomes from the brash billionaire than from conservative politicians who only talked the talk. Trump delivered on controversial issues like reversing Roe v. Wade. Trump also delivered on common-sense issues like protecting parental rights and reversing Obama-era rules that endangered female inmates by housing them with men who claim to be women. Under the Trump administration, Jerusalem was recognized as the capital of Israel, and the U.S. Embassy was moved there.
At the Frederick Douglass Freedom Alliance, we fight every day to make sure Christian voices are not marginalized in the public square. Recently, a young voter shouted, “Jesus is Lord,” at a Kamala Harris rally. Harris quickly mocked and chuckled, “You must be at the wrong rally.” That statement wasn’t just directed at one person; it was a broader dismissal of all Christians. It’s no secret that Democrats have moved further away from religious values, even attempting to remove references to God from their party platform on several occasions. In 2012, there was significant controversy when Democratic leaders initially removed references to God from the platform. Public backlash forced them to correct course.
Christians must get out and vote. Voting for Donald Trump doesn’t make someone a Christian. Scripture is clear. We are saved by God’s grace alone. However, Christians should vote for candidates who will advocate for their beliefs. The candidate that has consistently proven he will stand up for biblical values is the brash billionaire — not Harris, the joyful mocker.
