Frederick Douglass Foundation Announces Name Change

WASHINGTON – October 6, 2024 – Today, the Frederick Douglass Foundation, one of the nation’s largest conservative African-American organizations, announced its name change to the Frederick Douglass Freedom Alliance. The change reflects the organization’s continued commitment to the principles of freedom championed by abolitionist, author and orator Frederick Douglass. The organization’s mission remains focused on advocating for free market principles, limited government intervention, and citizen engagement grounded in Biblical and constitutional conservative principles.

“This change is more than just a new name. It is a determined decision to amplify the core values that have always been at the heart of our organization,” said Troy Rolling, president of the organization and one of its co-founders. “By focusing on the words freedom and alliance, the new name reaffirms our core principles of self-determination and working as a collective to impact public policy and popular culture with Biblical principles.”

State chapters are the lifeblood of FDFA.

State chapters are the lifeblood of our organization. We exist because of the alliance of states. They serve as our grassroots arm, engaging with local communities and advocating for our principles at the state and local levels.

The name change also gives the organization an opportunity to reflect and honor the remarkable contributions of two of the co-founders, the late Dean Nelson and Timothy Johnson. They recognized the need for an African-American-led organization in the public square that fought for Biblical solutions to issues facing the nation.

“Dean and Timothy understood with laser focus clarity the importance of building a national grassroots alliance,” Rolling continued. “Their passion and commitment to the principles of freedom resonate in everything we do. As we embrace this new chapter as the Frederick Douglass Freedom Alliance, we carry their legacy with us, honoring their memory and working to build on the foundation they established.”

The Frederick Douglass Freedom Alliance has already achieved significant milestones, including establishing 12 active alliances with over 500 members. The organization has shared more than 1 million voter guides with voters across the nation. In key states like Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, the organization has made a substantial impact in elections through values-oriented educational resources.

The Frederick Douglass Freedom Alliance will continue to emphasize the importance of Biblical and constitutional conservative principles, advocating for policies that promote economic freedom, individual responsibility, and a limited government that respects the rights of its citizens.
